Every parent desires to see their child growing up having straight teeth and a beautiful smile.

But when you notice any orthodontic issue like crooked teeth, overcrowded teeth, and a bad bite (overbite or underbite known as Malocclusion) in your kid’s mouth, you get worried! and might feel the need for braces, but the question is: When is the right time to get braces for your child?

Braces can benefit your kid for his/her orthodontic issues at almost any age. The most suitable and recommended time for the treatment of braces is between the age of 10-14 years.

Getting braces at this age is preferable because:

  • Your kid will have all of his/her permanent teeth including molars, necessary for getting braces.
  • This is the time when a child’s mouth and head are undergrowth and teeth are easier to shift to their correct places.
  • Jawbones at this age are also helpful for braces to correct the bite issues.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that The American Dental Association (ADA) and The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommend that your child must initially visit the Orthodontist when they are 7 years old. This is the age when developing potential problems can be observed so the parents can take early precautions to somehow reduce the intensity of future treatments.

Braces aren’t just to improve your child’s physical orofacial appearance but also for their good dental health, and it is nothing to be afraid of! It will give your child a pleasing alignment with healthier gums and teeth.
