What to do before you reach us

Knocked-out permanent tooth

Find the tooth and pick it up by the crown, not the root. Gently rinse it with water if it’s dirty, and if you can, place it back in the socket. If that’s not possible, tuck it in a cup of milk. Then call us immediately; a knocked-out permanent tooth is time-sensitive.

Chipped or broken tooth

Save any pieces you can find and rinse your child’s mouth with warm water. Use a cold compress on the cheek to ease swelling, and call us to be seen.

Toothache

Rinse with warm water and gently floss around the tooth to clear any trapped food. A cold compress helps with swelling. Skip placing aspirin directly on the gums, and call us to find the cause.

Knocked-out baby tooth

Don’t try to put a baby tooth back in; that can damage the developing adult tooth underneath. Control any bleeding with gentle pressure and call us so we can check the area.
