When a little extra support makes all the difference

Some kids breeze through a dental visit. Others freeze, melt down, or simply can’t sit through the care they need, either because they’re anxious, sensory-sensitive, very young, or facing a longer procedure. Sedation is how we help those kids get treated comfortably and safely.

As an experienced Carrollton & McKinney sedation dentist, Dr. Haider offers several levels of sedation so we can match the support to your child instead of defaulting to the same thing every time. The goal is always the same: needed care, delivered without fear or trauma, with you informed at every step.

Why so much of our care can happen in-house

Because we offer multiple sedation options and have years of experience with nervous and special-needs kids, we can treat many children right here who would otherwise be referred out to a hospital or specialist. That means fewer offices, fewer strangers, and a familiar team your child already trusts.
  • Less waiting and fewer outside referrals
  • The same calm faces and kid-friendly office your child knows
  • Coordinated care from a team that knows your child's history
  • Comfort options for autism, ADHD, sensory needs, and medically complex kids

Safety comes first, every single time

Sedation is safe when it’s done carefully, and careful is how we do it. We review your child’s full medical history before recommending any option, monitor them closely throughout the appointment, and choose the lightest level of sedation that will get the job done.

We’ll walk you through exactly what to expect, how to prepare your child beforehand, and how to care for them afterward.

Our sedation options, from lightest to deepest

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
K
L
A mild, fast-acting calming gas breathed in through a small nose mask. Your child stays awake and responsive but relaxed, and the effects wear off within minutes of the mask coming off so they can usually head back to school or normal activities. It's our most commonly used option and is suitable for children as young as 3.
Oral sedation
K
L
A prescribed medication taken before the visit that makes your child drowsy and relaxed while still awake. It's a good fit for kids who need more calm than nitrous provides or who have a longer appointment ahead. Your child will need an adult to drive them home afterward.
IV sedation
K
L
A deeper, carefully monitored level of sedation delivered through an IV, used when a child needs more support to complete necessary care comfortably.
General anesthesia
K
L
For select cases, like extensive treatment or a child who can't safely complete care any other way, general anesthesia lets us finish everything in a single, fully asleep visit.
Valium sedation
K
L
A specific oral sedation option we use when it's the right tool to reduce stress and support a calmer appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is dental sedation safe for children?
K
L
Yes, when it's managed properly. We review your child's medical history first, monitor them throughout, and use the lightest effective level of sedation. Nitrous oxide, in particular, is very safe and wears off within minutes.
Will my child be asleep?
K
L
It depends on the option. With nitrous oxide and most oral sedation, your child stays awake but relaxed. IV sedation is deeper, and general anesthesia is used in select cases when a child needs to be fully asleep to complete care safely.
Which sedation option will my child need?
K
L
As your Carrollton & McKinney sedation dentist, we recommend the lightest level that will let your child get through their care comfortably, based on their anxiety, age, medical history, and the treatment involved.
Does insurance cover sedation?
K
L
Coverage varies by plan and procedure. We'll give you a clear estimate before treatment, help you check your benefits, and offer financing options and an in-house membership plan if you need them.
